A few days ago the newspaper Diario Perú 21 asked me to be a part on their fashion article – LIFWEEKgiving advice on fashion trends and tips for the season. I just needed to send a couple of images on high def, but since I am such a geek, I got excited and sent them a complete text explaining some of the items I think are basic on your closet this Fall/Winter.

Must-haves for the Fall/Winter season 2012:

Peplums – a short flared, gathered, or pleated strip of fabric attached at the waist of a woman’s jacket, dress, or blouse kind of like a petal in a flower. Very 50s old Hollywood. It is perfect to highlight a woman’s curves without being over the top. Peplums can be worn in the office or a special occasion. You can use it in a floral print with a black background, which is super fashionable and very forgiving on any extra weight we may be carrying around.

Mint/Seafoam green/acqua – This has become the trendy color of the season. Pastel tones give a vintage look. In this case you could wear them with some colorful flats playing with the shades you are wearing. I recommend vali flats from Catu Shoes, leather shoes, custom-made and at really affordable prices.

ChiffonChiffon has become the new cotton. This fabric/texture gives a touch of elegance to any look. It you are more on the conservative side, wear sheer blouses with tops that match the color of the blouse of your skin tone. If you are more daring, then take the opportunity to renew your bra collection and wear lace or strapless. Talking about chiffon blouses, in Lima Carolina Sará wins the cup! She has her own showroom in Velasco Astete with a special section just for items on sale, you have to go!

Blazers – You can’t NOT have one. They give any look a light formal air, and they are so easy to wear – perfect for the changes of this season. I highly recommend the blazers sold by Bo’hem, they have a boyfriend cut, with ¾ sleeves.

Chain purse – A fun, basic accessory. You can wear it day or night and its size make it easy to carry it everywhere. Atómika in Conquistadores has some really good brands in suede and pastels and bright colors. Y can’t remember the name of the brand right now, but I suggest you take a look, you will definitely find something you like.

All the items mentioned above can be combined with others and mixed with different trends, it’s all up to you.
